I had wanted to get this up on the 26th, but real life intervened.
On Monday we went to see John Kerry in Macomb County, MI. We had a wait of several hours, but it was worth it! Around 10,000 people were there, while two or three thousand more were turned away because there was no room. Kerry said that a couple of thousand more were in an overflow room watching the event by TV--he asked us to give them a big cheer.
From near the front of the line to get in, this is what we saw behind us (click on photos to enlarge).
The Bush/Cheney people came out to do their thing. They were blocking the sidewalk, so some mounted police eventually moved them off into the parking lot, where they remained for pretty much the entire event. That guy with the headset is Secret Service.
A view of the crowd inside the fieldhouse.
Senator Kerry--the next President of the United States--giving his stump speech. You know, I used to be ABB, but now I'm pro-Kerry. He looked great, he was energetic despite the fact that he'd already been to New Hampshire and to the big (100,000+) rally in Philly (along with Clinton), he was warm, he was passionate, and the crowd went crazy for him.
It was a great evening, very energizing and inspiring. Can't wait to vote for him next Tuesday. Oh, sure, a little voice tells me that within a month of his inauguration I'll be griping about him, but when that happens, surely I'll remember what our last president was like ...
