Okay, lefties. As Pat Schroeder once said, "You can't wring your hands and roll up your sleeves at the same time," so let's get moving. There are some things that need our attention, and I'll make it easy for you to attend to them in this and a couple of succeeding posts.
Let's get going on that recount.
Let the mainstream media (MSM) call us conspiracy theorists all they want: we know there's an excellent chance that the vote was hacked. Exit polls are used all over the world as a means of making sure elections are kept honest, so there's no reason we should accept the idea that this time exit polling was inaccurate. In fact, according to one academic, the odds that the exit polls were that far off is something like 250 million to one.
What can you do? Add your voice, and, if possible, a bit of your money to the effort to ensure an accurate recount.
The Help America Recount organization is a 527 established solely for the purpose of recounting the 2004 vote. A contribution will help them raise the necessary funds for recounts in various states. Bev Harris, of Black Box Voting, and Ralph Nader are spearheading this. (No, I don't like Nader, either, but I'm glad to see him back at something similar to his old persona as crusader for the consumer.)
David Cobb and Michael Badnarik, presidential candidates of the Green and Libertarian parties, respectively, are calling for a recount in all 11,000 precincts of Ohio. They need to raise funds to the tune of an estimated $113,000. Some people feel that theirs is the best chance at an accurate count; I have no opinion on that, but we do need money to do these recounts.
MoveOn has a new page, Investigate the Vote, where you can--with the click of a button--sign a petition and send a message to Congress: "Congress must investigate the integrity of the voting process in the 2004 election." John Conyers and others have already sent two letters to the GAO--the investigative arm of Congress--to do just that, but haven't received a reply. Let's put the pressure on.
Act for Change will send an e-mail to your representative asking him or her to join Reps. Conyers, Scott, Nadler, Watt, Wexler and Holt in demanding an investigation of electronic voting machines.
The League of Pissed Off Voters says This time we're watching. Check them out for news articles, actions, and information on public hearings, rallies, etc.
Come on! Let's get this ball rolling. We must know the truth.
