Happy birthday, no-longer-kittens

Tomorrow our kittens are a year old. I've always understood that they cease to be kittens and become cats at that time--at least, the makers of kitten food so assert. Well, they still behave like kittens, and they're still growing.

Here they are at one of their favorite pastimes: bird- and squirrel-watching:

 

And here they are, intently following the movements of some insect:

 

As I've said before, they were litter mates and inseparable, and they still like to be near each other much of the time. Happy birthday, kitties!

In a reversal of their usual roles, Ariel was grooming Artemis, and doing so forcefully: note how Ariel's right "arm" is over Artemis's throat. Not sure exactly how Artemis felt about this ...

Our kittens, now nine months old, were litter-mates and inseparable. Their mom's owner was happy to find people who wanted them both.

Artemis looks like a full-grown cat here. In this photo, she's 6 months old, but the kitten--who came to Thanksgiving with our friend Charles--is somewhere around 6 to 8 weeks old.

Artemis is apparently compelled to groom anything and everything, but especially her sister, Ariel.

Here's a rare moment: Blixa in actual fur-to-fur contact with Artemis. He's actually more aggressive with Sekhmet than he is with the kittens, although we're pretty sure the rapidly growing kittens are the cause of his increasing aggression toward her.

 
 

Kittens!

We've had kittens for a couple of months now, and I've been derelict in not putting up photos. Here are some from when we first got them. Ariel and Artemis:

They often sleep on top of each other or all tangled up:

 

They've grown a lot since then and will soon be cats, as is the way of kittens. Tomorrow they go to the vet to be spayed and declawed, poor babies. I hope they recover quickly and with no infections or other complications.
