Democracy Now! had an interview with Jeremy Scahill (of The Nation) about the private reserve corps (see: http://tinyurl.com/2k9nga). He says this is about expanding Blackwell, Halliburton, and similar war profiteer companies. In other words, it's about turning America's military into a privately run horde of mercenaries.

How this works when a) the mercenaries are paid 5x the salary, b) they can leave at will (and do, leaving others high and dry), and c) they are not as good at most of what they do as the actual military, I don't know. The reason we had soldiers in the desert in 120-degree heat with 3 quarts of water per day and 2 MREs, forcing them to buy water and food from Iraqis, was because Kellogg Brown & Root couldn't do their damned jobs.

It's like they're just TRYING for mutiny in the armed forces.
